Tino Contreras Quinto Sol – Musica Infinita
Gilles Peterson has just announced a brand new label, Arc Records. The label has been set-up specifically to reissue lost gems Peterson has stumbled across during his many years as a record collector and DJ. The label’s inaugural release is this mind altering piece of music from Mexico’s Tino Contreras. The only track we have to listen to right now is stunning opener ‘Sinfonia Del Quinto Sol’, which greets us with a heady concoction of jazz and trippy psychedelia. A tune Peterson fans will recognise from his radio shows over the years. The full album is due for release in January, but until then you can pre-order at the link below.

Theo Parrish – What You Gonna Ask For
I’ve been a little obsessed with this song, without actually knowing what it is, for something like 18 months now. Theo played it a long time ago on a guest mix he did for NTS without actually mentioning what it was. I spent alot of time trying to find out who was behind it, Shazam, asking random people on facebook, scouring endless soulful house releases, hoping to stumble across it. I think it was the Dego mix he played, as it didn’t sound quite so obviously a Theo production as it does when I listen now. I’m very happy to see this finally coming out, so I can play it on loop to my hearts content, and I will. It’s great to also learn that it’s a collaboration with a number of members of the currently super hot Melbourne jazz soul scene. Featured on the track are as follows…
Lori (Laura Christoforidis) – Vocals
Silentjay (Alejandro Abapo) – Saxophone
Simon Mavin – Keys
Perrin Moss – Drums
Paul Bender – Bass
DayKoda – All Of Me
If you listened to our latest show you must have noticed a totally out there piece of future jazz business from DayKoda. The whole album is absolutely nuts, in a good way of course. There’s a sweet Reginald Omas Mamode IV remix on there as well if it all gets a bit too much for you. Check the whole thing at the link above👆
