On Noods Radio Monday lunchtime

The second of our shows for the excellent Noods Radio airs Monday lunchtime 12-1pm. Plenty of lovely stuff to play. We got new jazz from the 22a stable, smoky electronica from Rvng Intl, a great fusion reissue from High Jazz and a few current dancefloor burners. Tune in if you can via the website or search for Noods on the TuneIn smartphone app.

Banoffee Pie Digi 06

If you’re not familiar with the awesome Banoffee Pie label, they periodically release these great digital compilations which are wicked entry points for the new comers. Volume 6 just came out and it’s the perfect selection, overflowing with deep, dark and dirty dancefloor bombs. My pick of the comp is Mark Nicholas’s hi-tech roller ‘This Jazz’, but the whole thing is fire, go cop…

Karmasound – Can See Thru

We placed Karmasound’s last EP for Phuture Shock Musik at number one in our top 10 EPs of 2018 (check the full list here), so it’s great to see a follow up hit the shelves.    The title track is a sweet and soulful broken beat affair featuring Jedreck on vocals.  There are also a couple of tasty remixes on offer from Sean McCabe.  One of them a broken take and the other a soulful house flip.  Finally Karmasound ups the tempo a notch a two for the great closing track ‘Another Way’.  Another stormer from Phuture Shock Musik, order your copy here

Sofatalk – Fragments EP

Italy’s Sofatalk come through with a brand new EP for French label Escapade Recordings. The collection is overflowing with the kind of lovely, jazz inflected, broken beats that get us a little hot under the collar here at TMID. In places reminiscent of the golden era of 70’s jazz funk, Herbie Hancock springs to mind. Though not to say retro, there is enough modern touches to sound heavy on the modern dancefloor. There’s four original tracks to lose yourself in here, each one a beauty. As well as that, keyboard king Kaidi Tatham contributes a remix of closing track ‘Like a Magpie’ that is predictably fantastic. The EP is released on February 1st and can be pre-ordered here

Kyle Hall on Bandcamp

It’s nice to see Kyle Hall has put a few of his previously vinyl only releases up bandcamp.  Good news for those who may have missed the physical releases.  Up there so far is the album ‘From Joy’ originally out in 2015, the ‘Eutrophia’ single from 2017 and last year’s excellent ‘Equanimity’ EP.  Catch up at the link below

The Maghreban – Islands

Following on from The Maghreban’s super eclectic album which came out last year on R&S comes a new EP Islands.  This one is described by the artist as slightly trackier, more boring efforts! Judging by the clips and advanced track, there’s nothing remotely boring on offer here. What we get instead is four dirty, dancefloor rollers that are right up our strasse.  Pre-order at the bandcamp link, EP comes out in full on the 18th Jan.
