The second of our shows for the excellent Noods Radio airs Monday lunchtime 12-1pm. Plenty of lovely stuff to play. We got new jazz from the 22a stable, smoky electronica from Rvng Intl, a great fusion reissue from High Jazz and a few current dancefloor burners. Tune in if you can via the website or search for Noods on the TuneIn smartphone app.
Italy’s Sofatalk come through with a brand new EP for French label Escapade Recordings. The collection is overflowing with the kind of lovely, jazz inflected, broken beats that get us a little hot under the collar here at TMID. In places reminiscent of the golden era of 70’s jazz funk, Herbie Hancock springs to mind. Though not to say retro, there is enough modern touches to sound heavy on the modern dancefloor. There’s four original tracks to lose yourself in here, each one a beauty. As well as that, keyboard king Kaidi Tatham contributes a remix of closing track ‘Like a Magpie’ that is predictably fantastic. The EP is released on February 1st and can be pre-ordered here
Update – First single Bacurau now available
Ivan Conti is best known as the rhythm section of the fantastic long running Brazilian jazz funk group Azymuth. Azymuth have been going since 1973, but this isn’t the first time Ivan has put out a solo project. Discogs tells me his first solo album came out way back in 1984 featuring this rather fetching cover! One for the shopping list no doubt.

Currently there is only a little 6 minute teaser mix of a bunch of tracks from the new album, but it’s enough to get excited about for sure. The album’s been produced by Daniel Maunick (aka Dokta Venom) and Ivan’s son Thiago Maranhão. The label is promising experiments with sounds more commonly associated with the modern dancefloor. The album is due on Far Out Recordings in the new year. A couple of remix EPs which have preceded the release are still available with remixes from big hitters IG Culture, 22a crew, Max Graef and Glenn Astro
